A CREATIVE MIND IS A PEACEFUL MIND
EMOTIONAL WELLBEING RETREAT
24TH-30TH MARCH ‘25
Creativity is not just drawing, painting, writing… it doesn’t have to be an activity at all. Creativity could just be a state of mind that feels MORE FREE.
That’s why our creative retreats + events are not just for creatives, they are for anyone that needs to rediscover more joy and ease in their lives.
Do you feel the need to disconnect from external expectations, and connect to something that feels more natural - more like you?
FLOW STATE
"In flow state, the ego falls away. Every action, movement + thought follows from the previous one. Your whole being is involved, and you're using your skills to the utmost," - finding this state is the aim of our retreats.
BENEFITS: emotional regulation : sense of fulfilment : increased performance : foster creative thinking
BRINGING BACK CURIOSITY AND PLAY TO THE LEARNING PROCESS
We can all remember being a lot less concerned about how we appeared to others at some point in our lives. Young children learn new skills with more ease, partly because their brains are like sponges, but also because they simply don’t care as much as we do as adults. Our retreats will encourage you to get creative, by first reframing how we approach learning.
We’ve taken inspiration from many sources (see below for some recommendations), but overall we created this retreat in a response to a collective feeling off being over-stimulated, and under-inspired. Many studies show boredom as one of the key stages of creating, so here we bring you time for mental space, in contrast to our guided creative sessions. In this process, you can really rediscover (or uncover), your inspiration again.
-
Trying to get things absolutely right is the death of creativity. Many great artists have to go through many ‘failures’ before they find their style, and the most unique ideas are often found when you least expect them.
Perfectionism is a very modern issue, with online profiles that show only the best of everything, we don’t always get to see what goes wrong. In some areas of life, of course we need to aim to get things right, being creative is not one of them. The simple act of saying ‘it doesn’t matter’ is really powerful, and it’s the first step in being truly creative.
-
As adults we often we feel like there has to be a purpose to everything we do - there doesn’t!
By removing the idea that you’re creating something so you can post it on social media, or as part of a professional project, you have zero limitations, and it all becomes a lot more fun and expansive! Without end goals in sight, you can just do what feels good, and get into the realms of enjoying creating again.
-
We were taught from a young age that learning had to happen in a certain way. Partly this comes from education systems, and the need to have some way to measure success (i.e. exams). Unfortunately some people are just not great at exams, but this doesn’t mean they cannot learn.
If you think back to being a young child, there were many things you learnt very instinctively before you had to think about passing exams. Many people have a great sense of what will look, feel or sound beautiful, without there being any good reason behind it. By starting to learn new skills as you did when you were younger, just by trying and playing, you can find your own way of learning that feels right for you.
-
A big part of creating is just practicing. No great creative got where they are without honing their craft, so you have to expect to spend time recreating your work again and again. In some ways the creative process is like an experiment, you have a hypothesis, you try it, and see the results, then you try a new hypothesis. This practice is key, so we want to help you find something you feel you want to make a part of your life in the future too.
-
Take plenty of time to do absolutely nothing.
Just as our muscles need rest days between workouts to grow stronger, our minds need periods of idleness to process. We do so at night while dreaming; during the day, our minds tend to process through daydreaming.
In a series of studies, researchers found that subjects who were asked to do mundane, boredom-inducing tasks were more creative afterward. Boredom is a “variety-driving emotion,” meaning that it primes us to seek out new and different — therefore creative — experiences and solutions. Boredom naturally fosters the foundational facet of wonder, openness. A ready openness to new experiences and to one’s environment leads to more potential creative insight.

GOOD TO KNOW
RETREAT CREATOR
Studio Mytha founder Amy Patsalides has created this retreat based on her own experience as a creative. Growing up in the 80s, boredom was a common occurrence, but it was never something that was as feared as it is nowadays. Remembering this time fondly, she shares “Most of my childhood I was faced with boredom. When I couldn’t play out with my friends, I’d be at home, and, being an only child, I'd have very little to entertain me. But it was this time in my life that I started drawing - and I’d spend HOURS doing so. I also used to write stories - at some point I even wrote a book - I taught myself to cook when I was 10, and I’d forever be creating plays with my friends - most of all, my imagination was totally WILD, and I saw the world through a very inspiring lens. This was when the seeds of creative thinking got planted for me.
I know I wouldn’t have found my creative streak without that 'boredom', and it made me think what we might discover if we dare to venture away from constant stimulation today…” Amy works as a brand designer, loves spending time sketching & painting, and has an interest in Psychology that has led her to start her studies to become a therapist. She sees these retreats as a way to revisit how we can go about fostering creativity, and how that can also help with our wellbeing.

We will have the option for you to join a morning guided meditation session every morning in the barn, or you can choose to take your own walking meditation around the grounds. We will overall encourage silence and reflection to start the day, until we sit together for breakfast. This is our daily ritual to enter our day of creating.
Following this mindful time, we invite you to spend time free writing, allowing anything and everything to pour out onto the page, there is no right or wrong way to approach this, but more a way to get the mind flowing.
On some days we will offer some movement too, this could be anything from gentle yoga, to a chance to shake off the morning grogginess with some dancing.
-
We will have a chef preparing all our food during the retreat, to allow you to focus totally on immersing yourself in the process. Starting the day with a filling breakfast, we will provide some light snacks for lunch, and a nourishing buffet style dinner where we join together to end the day. A glass of wine by the fireplace is also an optional addition to your evening.
-
Every day we will provide a morning workshop, pulling inspiration from many sources to bring you some different ways of thinking about how, and what, to create. This session is about experimentation, trying new things, working with others, and taking yourself out of your comfort zone. If you are already a creative, it’s a chance to drop a lot of what you already do, and play with new ideas. If you’ve never created before, this is your chance to find something that resonates with you!
Whilst these sessions will be guided, there is no assessment, or desired outcome either. We are not focused on end goals, but more in experiencing the journey fully.
-
Every afternoon you have time to invest in what you feel you need more of. This is your time to check in and ask - do I feel inspired right now, or do I need to allow some time for an idea to form?
If you need some silence and time to think (or feel), take a hike in the local area, sit by the fireplace and daydream, or even take a nap - remember, this time is just as important to your process as doing the work itself.
If you’re feeling inspired to create, the barn will be open for you to head back to your creative space and work.
-
There will be an optional sharing space every evening before dinner, to come and share with your fellow creators.
If you feel there’s something you’ve created that you’d like to share, this is your time. If you’re feeling stuck, and would like to get feedback from the group, or just would like to sit and listen to what everyone else is experiencing, it’s all welcome.

FIND YOUR INNER CREATIVE
HOW TO FIGURE OUT IF THIS RETREAT IS FOR YOU.
We can’t stress enough that this retreat isn’t only for people that work in a creative field. The reason we created this concept is to share the benefits of creativity with anyone. We have put together some examples here of how the retreat could help you, depending on what you’re looking for.
-
If you’re feeling uninspired, struggling to find enjoyment in your day-to day life, or just need a break!
Taking some time away from life is always helpful, but this retreat will also give you some tools that could help you find pockets of enjoyment in your real life too. Doing something creative can have a positive effect on mental health that is sustainable even when after the retreat ends.
-
If you work in the creative field, then you probably know by now that forcing ideas never works. What can really help you find your next great idea is not thinking about it at all.
These retreats allow you to disconnect from the client brief for a while, and just explore again. Plus disconnecting and spending time in nature is surprisingly great in allowing ideas to bubble to the surface naturally - if you don’t believe us, give it a try.
-
If you already have a creative skill or even work as a professional artist, it’s always worth venturing into a space where you can share your work with others and get feedback. It can become too insular sometimes working alone, where the dynamic of a retreat allows you to gain new perspectives and bring them into your work - not only from the people around you, but also from a new environment.
-
It can be really difficult starting a creative pursuit from scratch as an adult. So if you have the desire to do something creative, but have no idea what you’d enjoy, or what you’d like to do, this is a great environment to find out.
Leave all expectations at the door, and get ready to play, get inspired by other people, and really just express yourself in a very free way.
